Where we Work?

Baraka (In Kiswahili is Blessing) is located in Mathare slum (Mathare 4A which is the 2nd and the oldest slum in Nairobi). It was founded in 1997 by the German Doctors in cooperation with st. Benedicts Parish to provide primary Health Care to the inhabitants of the Mathare slum. We originally worked on the grounds of the Mathare 4A Primary school with four doctors. In 2005 December we moved into a new building and expanded our team to six German Doctors and a Kenyan Clinician officer (For Patients with TB & HIV together with the Kenyan staff.)
German Doctors (GD) has implemented a project in Athi River that begins in March 2020. This project has comprised a medical clinic (Fanaka MedicalCentre) whose infrastructure is already in place. Through this facility, GD will extend its primary health care interventions to the surrounding communities and particularly those living in slums and informal settlements.

The dispensary is now run by the Kilifi County Government and supported by North Coast Medical Training College (NCMTC) and Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF), both of which also are located within the same locality as the dispensary.
